Random Things I Hate About My Beloved K-dramas

Random stuff I and a friend brainstormed while getting ready to leave work.
As she told me about one of our favorite topics (Korean Dramas!), we both began discussing what annoys us the most about them. No title or series was specified during these ranting discussions. Only what annoyed us. In NO WAY does this remove or decrease our enjoyment for these amazing series. Enjoy!
*Disclaimer: These raves relate to Korean HISTORICAL Dramas. I will have a list for other genres.

1) Always an island to be exiled.
A) If lucky, execution may await on said island.

2) Village idiot suddenly has moment of clarity upon pain of death/trauma.

3) When they kill off the sidekick, best friend, or loyal servant, in order to force inert protagonist into action.

4) Mysterious illness without foreshadowing or explanation.

5) Eloquent speech will precede mysterious, fatal illness.

6) The royal guard who is always at the right place at the right time (if he is a good guy).

7) The royal guard who is always at the wrong place at the right time (if he is a bad guy).

8) Royal guard can always fight off entire militia/military force.

9) Royal guard can fight off said force with The Sword That Cannot Break.
A) However, once doing a mundane task, indestructible sword will break!

Last but Not Least,
10) Family heirloom or talisman that, without it, no one would know who the hero/heroine actually is (kind of like an ID Card!).
A) Hero/Heroine wouldn't be alive unless said heirloom/talisman is in his/her possession.

Where have all the US/Canada Manga/Anime Mags Gone?

More choices and more limitations.

I miss the 90s.

During those years, I had plenty of choices in Anime/Manga magazine titles, such as 'Animerica', & its sister, the manga-serial 'Animerica Extra'.
There was: 'Super Manga Blast', 'Anime Insider', 'NewType' (English version), 'Pulp', 'ProtoCulture', 'ShojoBeat' and 'YenPlus' (which now downgraded to a digital-only version) and finally, a magazine that Shall Not Be Named but used to have a consistent schedule, and did its readers a favor by cutting its cover price in half, but now, shoddy scheduling, limited distribution, and unstable customer service plagues it.
We were building a list of such titles that in at least a decade's time, we (like Rocky) 'Coulda been a contenda' to the Japanese, well, maybe not. They had a head start since the 50s to build their mountain empire of anime/manga magazines, but we in the U.S./Canada almost had a fighting chance to probably catch up!

Hmmm...Maybe not.

*Sigh* I MISS the 90s.

Publisher & PowerPoint are probably the only good things to come out of Microsoft. There, I said it.
